Remember not the events of the past,
the things of long ago consider not;
See, I am doing something new!
Now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
In the wilderness I make a way…
January update from Billerica Catholic Religious Education (BCRE)
This will likely be the last monthly update from BCRE for this school year, as each of our programs have settled into good routines, which will remain through the end of May.
Children and Young Teens (Grades 1-8) resume Explorers (Gr. 3-4) and Navigators (Gr. 7-8) on Tuesday & Thursday, January 5 & 7, followed by Seekers (Gr. 1-2) and Pathfinders (Gr. 5-6) on Tuesday & Thursday, January 12 & 14. Each of these programs meets every other week, alternating weeks, through the end of May. February school vacation, Holy Week, and April school vacation will have no religious education sessions.
Teen Ministries (Confirmation) will resume weekly Zoom sessions on February 28, though there are parent-teen meetings, retreats (virtually), and Fr. Paul spoke with the teens on January 10. More detailed information will be sent to those families.
For Teens Grades 7 and up: On Monday nights at 7:30pm on Zoom, teens gather with Billerica Catholic to be community and grow closer to God. This is time for fun, music, discussions and prayer.
Our new four week series, Defining Moments, begins Jan. 18, on Mondays at 7:30pm on Zoom
Dustin and Tony share some bible passages to help all of us go deeper in faith and grow closer to Jesus. For more information, visit our website.
For our parents: Reclaiming Family Time
We have arranged for Sue Muldoon, who, with her husband Tim, are the authors of Reclaiming Family Time, for a Zoom gathering on Sunday, January 24 from 7-8pm. We are calling this event, “Replacing the Stones – Creating the Family Life We Want.”
As we begin to see the light at the end of the COVID-19 tunnel, we can begin to consider what we have learned during the past 9 months, and how we might like our family life to look going forward.
Sue Muldoon is the Director of Family Ministries and Faith Formation at Good Shepherd Parish in Wayland. She is also a clinical therapist who has worked in college mental health and with families touched by adoption and foster care. Together with her husband Tim, Sue is the author of three books on family spirituality, Reclaiming Family Time, Six Sacred Rules for Families and The Discerning Parent. Sue and Tim are the parents of three teenage children.
Stay tuned for more details from Deacon Phil.
Please pick up your materials if you have not yet done so, they remain outside St. Theresa Hall, in totes, in Billerica Center. You may stop by anytime and pick up your materials. Those who have registered in January have a separate tote outside the religious education office on the right side of St. Theresa Hall, in Billerica Center.
Some families have come to appreciate the ease of downloading a BCRE schedule into their digital calendar app – those are available on our website by clicking here or at: https://reled.billericacatholic.org/calendar/
The physical BCRE Office will remain closed as we continue to serve you remotely. Please contact us by email, and know that messages left on our voicemail will be responded to as quickly as possible.
We are beginning to envision what the future of faith formation will be in St. Matthew the Evangelist parish. While we have adjusted to the present moment, we want to innovate for the future. You may send any ideas or feedback to Tony Carbrello at firstname.lastname@example.org
The Bottom Line, Now:
Our goal remains to provide the best faith formation experiences for our community in the safest way possible. With Jesus as our source, we want BCRE to be your source of hope, meaning, and purpose. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is worth nothing less than these principles.
We hope that your families remain healthy and safe during this continued time of pandemic.
St. Matthew the Evangelist, pray for us!
