Now that the BCRE team is together again, we are actively preparing for our future of faith formation in St. Matthew the Evangelist parish, serving the Catholic Community of Billerica.

He will wipe every tear from their eyes,
And there shall be no more death…

Updates from Billerica Catholic Religious Education (BCRE)
As we pivot our calendar at Labor Day in these unusual times, the BCRE team is ready to announce Billerica Catholic Religious Education for the fall. We are excited to share with you our vision for forming our children, teens, and families in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and God’s truth taught through the Catholic Church.
There is a lot of information in this email, but it is needed because of the complexity of our situation. Please carefully read it all the way through, and ask us any questions you may have.
In light of recent guidance from the Archdiocese of Boston concerning faith formation (religious education / CCD) programs, after consulting with our Pastor, Fr. Paul, we are pleased to announce that all BCRE programs through December will happen virtually through the Zoom platform to compliment home-based materials.
Our goal remains to provide the best faith formation experiences for our community. With Jesus as our source, we want BCRE to be your source of hope, meaning, and purpose. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is worth nothing less than these principles.
If you have not yet registered for the upcoming year, please click here to complete your registration. We would be grateful for your registration by Monday, September 21, so that we can prepare materials for your family to pick up.
We will offer multiple days and times to pick up materials in late September or early October. All materials will be picked up at the BCRE office in Billerica Center, located behind St. Theresa Church. More information will be sent to registered families.
We will do our best to be flexible if you need to make registration changes.
We have updated our website and online registration to reflect what we are offering this fall. We are thankful to those who have already registered. Families who registered for a space in an on-site class will be sent a simple online registration “update” form by another email that reflects the changes to our offerings (look for this message on Sunday, September 13).
Each faith formation program will use Community Zoom Sessions, to compliment the home-based learning done with age-specific resources available in both printed and online formats. These Zoom sessions will be offered on the following days and times (note: there will be no sessions Nov. 23-29 for Thanksgiving):
Seekers (Gr. 1-2) – Tuesdays and Thursdays, every other week, at 4pm, starting Oct. 13 & 15 (five scheduled zoom meetings until Christmas)
Explorers (Gr. 3-4) – Tuesdays and Thursdays, every other week, at 4pm, starting Oct. 6 & 8 (five scheduled zoom meetings until Christmas)
Pathfinders (Gr. 5-6) – Tuesdays and Thursdays, every other week, at 7pm, starting Oct. 13 & 15 (five scheduled zoom meetings until Christmas)
Navigators (Gr. 7-8) – Tuesdays and Thursdays, every other week, at 7pm, starting Oct. 6 & 8 (five scheduled zoom meetings until Christmas)
High School 1 – parent & teen zoom meeting on October 4 at 2pm, then eight weekly zoom meetings starting Oct. 18 (except Nov. 29) through Dec. 13, at 12:30 or 2:30pm
Confirmation 2 (for those enrolled in Confirmation 1 during the 2019-2020 year) – parent & teen zoom meeting on September 27 at 2pm, then eight weekly zoom meetings starting Oct. 18 (except Nov. 29) through Dec. 13, at 1:30 or 3:30pm
Additionally, we are also offering:
Teen Leadership Community – open to all teens in grades 9-12, Sundays at 11:30am, starting September 13. No registration required.
Compass (TLC for Navigators) – open to all teens in grades 7-8, Mondays at 7:30pm, starting September 14. No registration required.
Please see our website for more information about the TLC and Compass.
1. Even if we are able to offer on-site faith formation later in the school year, at no time will a family or child be required to attend on-site.
2. Since only one program will use the BCRE zoom account at a time, you no longer need to align multiple children to attend BCRE at the same day/time.
3. We need many volunteers to facilitate the zoom sessions. This is especially true in Navigators and our High School programs, where we need two adults for each small group breakout. We also need Presenters and Catechists for the whole-group pieces. Since our Coordinators will be setting up the online zoom experiences, you do not need to be a computer expert. Teenagers may assist as well – click here for more information.
4. If we are able to return to programs on site, no volunteers would be required to come on site unless they choose to do so.
5. We hope to have our “after-December” schedule and vision available to you by Thanksgiving.
6. The physical BCRE Office will remain closed as we continue to serve you remotely. Please contact us by email, and know that messages left on our voicemail will be responded to as quickly as possible.
There will be religious education / faith formation in Billerica – the Gospel will be shared and we will journey in faith together. We are actively preparing for what God has for the Catholic Community of Billerica and Billerica Catholic Religious Education.
We hope that your families remain healthy and safe during this continued time of pandemic.
St. Matthew the Evangelist, pray for us!
